Hey all, in the month of July, when it’s hot, or cold, and the days are long, or short, depending on which hemisphere you’re in, I’m at the half way mark on the way to getting that critical first editing pass on the book. That is a major milestone! I have figured out how to do several things, including how to measure things wrimo style when I’m editing (hand-edited pages done / softcopy pages entered) in a way that allows me to put the wrimo deadline mojo into the editing sphere. Woohoo! I am so glad to have figured out a way to make that work.
And, in a more general sense, I’m still hanging out here in Colorado, having spent a glorious 6 months out of the corporate cube, considering at this point going back to graduate school, potentially in San Francisco, to study something that is closer to spiritual/creative than to practical (transpersonal psychology), and so in the midst of the challenges that come with work shuffles, there has also been a fair degree of familial discontent. Very luckily for me though, I have close friends and a wonderful partner who understand my values and support me in my madness. And, I have this board and all you wonderful folks to share the gritty and joyful experience of writing progress with.
One of these is not true:
- I lived above the white cliffs of Dover.
- I am a cancer survivor.
- I am a seriously joyful Djembe player.
Two serious recommendations:
See this video: www.ted.com/talks/elizabeth_gilbert_on_genius.html
It will tell you something truly interesting about the idea of creative work, and how we tend to view it in modern Western society vs. how the Greeks and others view it. It may just save you your sanity.
See this movie: Midnight in Paris.
Along with being kind of funny, it is a serious meditation on valuing creative work, especially writing, and on finding the best of times in the era and live that you are living now.
Write on! And have a great month!
