Hey everybody.
Woohoo! Congratulations to butterflywings, Siana, and Marie for winning Nano! You three put some wordcount down that left me in your collective dust, picking dirt out of my teeth.
I too "won" Nano, though the truth is that I started by reworking a about 10k words from a previously existing project, so it wasn't until I was past the 60k mark that I called it a win. To make it required a heck of a sprint at the end, but I made it, and with slightly sore fingers, I'm here on the other side, I'm happy to be back in the middle of the dream of this one. Pernicious it was. Unwilling to be abandoned it was.
So, I'm feeling great about the writing just about now, though I am far from the end of the project. I'm guessing that it may take another month or two of wrimo-ish challenges to get to the end, or at the least the point where it can be 'an end.'
But, I learned something by just having my wordcount and that of the folks in my writing buddies list: really, I'm pretty low rent. A few comments, and a bit of wordcount based social psychology, and I'm flying down the wordcount, which makes me sort of an unlikely character to be the admin of a year round wrimo site. And, after another 60k words or so, and I'm going to be back into editing mode. Not nearly as sexy as writing new stuff, diving into the dream, sifting the dream through the keyboard, and wondering what I actually captured. Writing new stuff is like skydiving, while editing is more like packing your parachute, and doing maintenance on the plane. It's not a complete jump unless you do both.
So anyway, unless you all have major objections, or want to be admins on this site and keep it rolling, after this month, I'm going to stop posting monthly challenges, and maybe go see if I can find a home for chat and a monthly challenge over at the nice site that Siana has put together at arrow-of-eloquence.proboards.com/index.cgi Perhaps we can all meet up there, or elsewhere if you have suggestions.
Let me put this in bold so those who scan this don't miss it:
This board will be discontinued after December, unless you folk have major objections to that.
Write on everyone! Wherever the chats and scoreboards may be.
As Howard Thurman put it so well:
“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
